Alberta adds 622 new COVID-19 cases, Grande Prairie adds six

The City of Grande Prairie added six new cases of COVID-19 and seven more recoveries for a second straight day on Thursday, bringing its active case total down by one.

There are now 91 active cases of COVID-19 in the City while the County of Grande Prairie added three new cases for October 29 to bring its active case total to 21.

Elsewhere in the Peace Region, there were eight new cases reported in the Fairview area, where there are now nine active cases. There were also two new cases recorded in the Peace River area, where there are now 10 active cases as of October 29.

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day October 29 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 267 cases (91 active, 174 recovered, two deaths)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 93 cases (21 active, 72 recovered)
  • M.D. of Greenview: 24 cases (six active, 17 recovered, one death)
  • Birch Hills County: Five cases (all recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: 27 cases (four active, 23 recovered)
  • Saddle Hills County: Four cases (one active, three recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 76 cases (one active, 65 recovered, ten deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 53 cases (one active, 47 recovered, five deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: 23 cases (four active, 18 recovered, one death)
  • M.D. of Peace: 38 cases (ten active, 28 recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: 25 cases (nine active, 16 recovered)
  • Clear Hills County: 96 cases (two active, 93 recovered, one death)
  • Northern Sunrise County: Nine cases (all recovered)
  • County of Northern Lights: 59 cases (one active, 58 recovered)
  • Mackenzie County: 415 cases (seven active, 395 recovered, 13 deaths)

The province recorded its highest daily new case total since the onset of the pandemic, adding 622 new cases for Thursday. Those come as 12,938 tests were processed at the provincial lab, creating a positivity rate of 4.8 per cent.

In the North Zone, tests for 510 people were processed on Thursday, bringing the total number of people tested in Northern Alberta since March to 122,863.

Hospitalizations remain low in the North Zone with three people in hospital, two of whom are in an ICU.

Across Alberta, hospitalizations increased by 10 to 140, with 25 of those individuals now in an ICU.

Five more deaths were linked to COVID-19 over the last 24 hours, bringing the provincial total to 323.

Active cases now sit at 5,172 in Alberta, with 22,169 recoveries.

Due to site maintenance, Alberta Health says COVID-19 information will not be published again until Tuesday, November 3. That updated will account for October 30 to November 2 in the province.
