Poppy Campaign starts Friday in Grande Prairie

Oct 30, 2020 | 6:00 AM

The Royal Canadian Legion’s annual Poppy Campaign starts today.

Poppy boxes will be out at various businesses

Bobbie Vangurp with the Grande Prairie Legion branch says money raised goes towards helping out veterans.

“Our veterans include the RCMP, first responders, anybody with a service number. That’s all veterans, anybody who served or is in service.”

She adds there will be a few tables set up as well.

“(At) some stores, we have to have a table set up. With that, it will be the person at the table handing the person the poppy.”

Donating by text has been added for 2020.

“The only thing new this year is the texting poppy4gp to the 20222 number,” says Vangurp.

She adds they are hoping to top the nearly $48,000 raised last year.

Remembrance Day is November 11.
