COVID IN SCHOOLS

Two COVID-19 cases confirmed at St. Joe’s, St. Mary’s schools

Two cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in individuals from both St Joseph Catholic High School in Grande Prairie and St. Mary’s Catholic School in Sexsmith.

In a letter issued to families on Friday, Grande Prairie and District Catholic Schools Superintendent Karl Germann says the administrative team at St. Joe’s has contacted every person who might be impacted.

“If you did not receive a call or an email, you should not be concerned. Your child can return to school and there is no need to isolate,” reads the letter.

As for St. Mary’s students, a letter was issued by Alberta Health Services saying they are working to connect with all close contacts of the confirmed cases.

Having two cases identified means both of the schools will be classified as a school outbreak, though neither has been added to the province’s outbreak list as of Monday. The next update from the province on COVID-19 will happen on Tuesday, November 3, as the data website is currently undergoing scheduled maintenance.

Both schools remain open for in-school classes for all students not identified as a close contact.
