Five charged in June murder of Clairmont teen

The Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit’s investigation into the June 11, 2020, homicide of 19-year-old Kyler Dean Commandeur of Clairmont has resulted in a number of arrests and charges, including three people who are facing a charge of first degree murder

The charges come after the victim was found along the roadside of Highway 677, near the Woking turnoff just west of Highway 2 (about 50 km north of downtown Grande Prairie), on the morning of June 11 just after 9 a.m.

On September 24, authorities arrested 28-year-old Justin John Bishop of Clairmont and charged him with first degree murder. Following a judicial hearing he was remanded into custody. His next scheduled appearance in Grande Prairie Provincial Court is on November 23.

On September 25, 34-year-old Krista Marie Healey of Grande Prairie was arrested and charged with accessory to murder after the fact. Following a judicial hearing she was remanded into custody and is next scheduled to appear in Grande Prairie Provincial Court on November 25.

That same day, 36-year-old Melissa Aletha Healey of Beaverlodge was charged with forcible confinement. Following a judicial hearing she was released and her next court appearance is scheduled for Grande Prairie Provincial Court on November 16.

Then on October 16, the Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit arrested 25-year-old Cody Letourneau of Grande Prairie, who turned himself into RCMP, and is charged with first degree murder. Following a judicial hearing he was remanded into custody and is next scheduled to appear in Grande Prairie Provincial Court on November 16.

Lastly, on November 13, Mounties arrested 30-year-old Simon De Lima of Grande Prairie, in Saskatchewan, and he is charged with first degree murder. Following a judicial hearing he was remanded into custody and is scheduled to attend court in Grande Prairie Provincial Court via CCTV on December 2.

The RCMP’s Major Crimes Unit would like to thank the many RCMP detachments and outside agencies that provided assistance throughout this investigation. Those include Spirit River, Beaverlodge, Grande Prairie, Yorkton, and Prince Albert RCMP Detachments. Grande Prairie Forensic Identification Section, Grande Prairie General Investigation Section, the RCMP Forensic Laboratory and the RCMP Interview Assistance Team also assisted in this case.

The Quebec RCMP Truth Verification Section, the RCMP Technical Crimes, the Edmonton Office of the Chief Medical Examiner and the Saskatchewan Federal Penitentiary also played a role in this investigation.

“The mobilization of various RCMP support units, along with the help of outside agencies, was paramount to the success of this investigation,” says S/Sgt. Mark Sloan, Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit. “Thanks to the efforts of all involved, the Alberta RCMP were able to charge five individuals in connection with this homicide.”

The Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit would like to thank the public for the dash cam footage that was received early in the investigation, which they say assisted in furthering their investigation.
