City of Grande Prairie up to 92 active COVID-19 cases, 20 more deaths recorded in Alberta

Alberta recorded 20 more deaths linked to COVID-19 over the last 24 hours, as Alberta Health is reporting another 860 new cases across the province for November 15.

One of those fatalities was in the North Zone, a woman in her 60’s not from a continuing care facility. A total of 427 Albertans have now died from COVID-19 related complications, including 95 so far in November.

As for the Peace Region, the City of Grande Prairie has added 26 new cases of COVID-19 over the last three days along with 18 recoveries. That leaves the Swan City with 92 active cases as of November 15.

Meantime, the County of Grande Prairie added 18 new cases between Friday and Sunday along with four recoveries. There are now 34 active cases there.

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day November 15 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 399 cases (92 active, 305 recovered, two deaths)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 141 cases (34 active, 106 recovered, one death)
  • M.D. of Greenview: 59 cases (30 active, 28 recovered, one death)
  • Birch Hills County: Five cases (all recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: 28 cases (all recovered)
  • Saddle Hills County: Eight cases (four active, four recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 77 cases (one active, 66 recovered, ten deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 54 cases (one active, 48 recovered, five deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: 32 cases (seven active, 25 recovered)
  • M.D. of Peace: 89 cases (43 active, 46 recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: 50 cases (16 active, 34 recovered)
  • Clear Hills County: 98 cases (one active, 96 recovered, one death)
  • Northern Sunrise County: 15 cases (five active, ten recovered)
  • County of Northern Lights: 64 cases (three active, 61 recovered)
  • Mackenzie County: 423 cases (four active, 406 recovered, 13 deaths)

The new cases come as the province completed just over 12,000 tests, creating a positivity rate of approximately seven per cent.

Hospitalizations increased to 264 on Sunday across Alberta, 57 of whom are in intensive care.

In the North Zone, hospitalizations sit at nine with one of those people in an ICU.

Also Monday, Alberta Health Services declared a COVID-19 outbreak in a surgical unit at the QEII Hospital in Grande Prairie, where one patient has tested positive and two healthcare workers.

There are now 10,031 active cases of COVID-19 in Alberta, including 665 in the North Zone. A total of 29,731 people have recovered since March.
