Snowfall warning issued for Grande Prairie area

Nov 27, 2020 | 10:52 AM

A snowfall warning has been issued for the Grande Prairie-Beaverlodge-Valleyview area Friday, where as much as 20-25 centimetres of snow could fall by Saturday morning.

The warning extends south to include Grande Cache and Hinton.

The weather office says a long period of snowfall with total amounts of 20 to 25 cm is expected across west central Alberta Friday and into Saturday. Snowfall amounts could range between 10-15 cm today, with an additional 10 cm overnight.

Most of the snow will fall north of Highway 16 and south of Highway 43, with Environment Canada saying a lesser amount of snow is expected in the Grande Prairie area.

“Areas from Beaverlodge to the City of Grande Prairie to Valleyview and north will expect just a few centimetres of snow this evening.”

The snow is expected to taper off by Saturday morning before leading into warmer temperatures next week.

The weather office says visibility may be suddenly reduced at times by heavy snow, and drivers should adjust to changing road conditions.
