County council approves 2021 interim budget

The County of Grande Prairie is proposing a zero percent increase to tax rates for 2021.

County council passed their 2021 interim budget on Friday, with final budget and tax rates being completed in the spring, once the property tax levy for education requisitions is set by the province, and property assessment values are completed,

The $138.1 million budget includes $77,7 million for general operations, and $60.4 million for capital expenses, with around 45% of the capital budget being used for road and bridge projects.

Highlights include a new training facility and equipment replacement for the regional fire service, and a new water treatment plant as part of a new community water system for La Glace.

Other highlights include improvements to the Clairmont Centre for Recycling and Waste Management site.

And $6 million has been set aside for recreation, community, culture, library, seniors and special needs transportation, and FCSS grants to various organizations and neighbouring municipalities as per Intermunicipal Collaboration Framework agreements
