No in-person viewing for now, but 2021 Dream Home Lottery officially kicks off

It is a little bit ahead of schedule, but tickets for the 2021 Rotary Dream Home lottery are now on sale.

The announcement was made over a week ahead of the planned opening date of Boxing Day for this year’s grand prize home. This is because public health restrictions implemented by the province make it so the home can not be viewed in-person by the general public, for the time being.

“With having to deliver the news that we won’t initially be open for in-person viewing, we wanted to also give some good news and share we have released tickets just in time for the holidays!” said Raffle Manager Melissa Coulombe.

The grand prize home, which has been built in Taylor Estates by Unique Home Concepts, is valued at $1.3 million. The home features over 5,000 square feet of floor space and comes with features such as a self-watering living plant wall, a hanging bed, and a large metal ball maze.

The home has four bedrooms and 4.5 bathrooms. It also comes with a theatre room with an accompanying golf simulator in the basement, as well as a “secret kids space” on the upper level between the childrens’ bedrooms.

The Dream Home Lottery consists of 3 lotteries which includes the Dream Home, the Cash Cow Calendar with prizes up to $10,000 a day, weekdays in May and the Cash Jackpot 50/50.

The lottery serves as the Rotary Club of Grande Prairie’s largest of the year.

“Funds raised go right back into the communities we live in, support the groups and organizations our kids are part of or that truly do good and impact the incredible ongoing efforts made by so many to make our community a bit better everyday,” said Coulombe.

“It’s been a hard year and we want to be able to continue raising the funds we do, continue to give back and support so many worthwhile causes.”

During the final month of ticket sales for the 2020 Dream Home, the Rotary Club was able to donate over $250,000 to area food banks. This was after they pledged 50 per cent of all tickets sales from the month of April to area food banks.

Though the home cannot be seen in-person at this time, a 3D tour of the home can be seen on the lottery’s website. Tickets can also be purchased there.
