The County of Grande Prairie has found its new Director of Corporate Services.

The County says they have hired Carol Gabriel to fill the role, where she will oversee the departments of Communications, Facilities Management, Information Systems, Legislative Services and Records and Information Management.

“I am excited for this new and challenging leadership experience and the opportunity to share my passion for municipal government with the progressive team at the County of Grande Prairie,” said Gabriel, in a release. “I look forward to relocating to the County and being part of this dynamic community.”

The County says Gabriel brings with her nearly 30 years of experience in both a municipal government and school board setting. She comes to the County after spending the past eight years with Mackenzie County, where she served as the Director of Legislative and Support Services.

She spent the last year also serving as the Deputy Chief Administrative Officer for that municipality.

“We are very pleased to have attracted Carol to the County,” said CAO Joulia Whittleton. “Carol’s combination of broad industry knowledge, leadership experience and forward-thinking mindset will be a tremendous asset to the organization and the community.”

Gabriel holds certification in Municipal Law and Ethics from Dalhousie University. She also has a National Advanced Certificate in Local Government Authority Level I and is nearing completion of Level II certification.

She will take the role officially on February 16, 2021.
