Town of Beaverlodge takes first steps to build new health complex

Jan 8, 2021 | 5:05 PM

The Town of Beaverlodge has taken the first steps in attempting to get a new health complex built in the area.

In response to the Government of Alberta’s desire to invest in stimulus infrastructure and their campaign promise to deliver on P3 projects, the town has released a Request For Partnership on the Alberta Purchasing Connection

website to attract potential partners in the development of the complex.

Along with the request for potential partners in the development of the complex, the Mountview Health Complex Committee was also formed.

The committee is made up by members from the Town of Beaverlodge, the County of Grande Prairie and the Grande Spirit Foundation and will report back to Beaverlodge Town Council.

Beaverlodge Mayor Gary Rycroft says there a lot of different options on the table for the Town.

“The proposals from these partners will come up with several ideas to use the space properly. We’re looking at all aspects to happen in that spot.”

Rycroft said that there are companies interested in becoming a part of this process.

“The people who were setting this up for us have already kicked the waters a bit and we do appear to have some interest.”

Rycroft is hopeful that they’ll be able to build a hospital, something that has been needed in the town for a long time. If a hospital is built, they would have Alberta Health Services lease the facility.

If a hospital isn’t built, other complex’s such as a seniors facility could also be on the table.

The complex will be located on the south end of Beaverlodge as you enter the Town. It currently is a 20-acre property.

Over the next three months, the council will take proposals. The final proposals will then be debated upon and decided by Beaverlodge Town Council.

Rycroft tells EverythingGP that he’s happy to finally try to get a project like this off the ground after years of trying.
