Wind Warning issued for Grande Prairie, Greenview areas

Jan 19, 2021 | 8:06 AM

Environment Canada has issued a wind warning for the CIty and County of Grande Prairie, as well as for the Municipal District of Greenview.

The weather service says strong winds are expected to develop in the early afternoon, and that gusts could reach between 100 and 120 km/h.

The wind is expected to subside overnight.

Environment Canada warns that high winds can cause damage to buildings, such as to roof shingles and windows. High winds may also lift and toss objects, and cause branches to break or trees to fall.

The public is advised to be extra cautious.

The warning is in place for the City and the communities of Beaverlodge, Hythe, Demmitt, Sexsmith, La Glace and Wembley. It’s also in effect in the MD’s communities of DeBolt, Little Smoky, O’Brien Provincial Park, Big Mountain Creek, Sturgeon Lake, Valleyview, New Fish Creek, Wapiti and Shuttler Flats Recreation Area.
