Alberta Sheriffs shut down Whitecourt drug house

Mar 29, 2021 | 1:37 PM

Following an investigation, the Alberta Sheriffs unit has closed a property in Whitecourt that was a source of drug activity in the community.

SCAN (Safer Communities and Neighbourhoods unit) says their investigation began in response to multiple complaints about drug activity received from the community between October and December 2020.

The property, which was located on 20 Baily Rd in Whitecourt, was raided back in December of 2020, where the ALERT (Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams) seized methamphetamine, fentanyl, crack cocaine, GHB and drug paraphernalia.

SCAN obtained a court order against the owners of the home which bans anyone from the premises for 90 days and placed conditions on the property until December 2022. Nobody will be allowed on the property without permission from the sheriffs unit until June 27.

The community safety order that was granted in the Court of Queen’s Bench took effect at noon on March 29. Sheriffs now have the authority to board up the house, change the locks and erect a fence around the property.

The current owner of the property is prohibited from having any additional tenants or visitors without approval from SCAN for the duration of the community safety order, which expires on December 27, 2022.
