Grande Prairie adds 22 new COVID-19 cases, nine recoveries

The City of Grande Prairie added 22 new cases of COVID-19 and nine recoveries for March 29, raising the active case total in the city to 239.

The County of Grande Prairie added five new cases and two recoveries, raising the active caseload there to 90.

Across Alberta there were 576 new cases identified following the completion of 8,078 tests. The positivity rate on those tests was 7.1 per cent.

There were also 332 new cases involving variants of concern in the province. There are now 2,376 active cases involving variants, which accounts for approximately 30 per cent of the province’s active case load.

There are 153 active cases involving variants of concern in the North Zone as of March 29.

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day March 29 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 2,081 cases (239 active, 1,819 recovered, 23 deaths)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 630 cases (90 active, 536 recovered, four deaths)
  • M.D. of Greenview: 457 cases (29 active, 425 recovered, three deaths)
  • Birch Hills County: 12 cases (all recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: 51 cases (three active, 48 recovered)
  • Saddle Hills County: 14 cases (all recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 113 cases (one active, 102 recovered, 10 deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 478 cases (10 active, 457 recovered, 11 deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: 262 cases (10 active, 252 recovered)
  • M.D. of Peace: 494 cases (17 active, 477 recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: 65 cases (seven active, 57 recovered, one death)
  • Clear Hills County: 106 cases (105 recovered, one death)
  • Northern Sunrise County: 246 cases (six active, 239 recovered, one death)
  • County of Northern Lights: 99 cases (one active, 98 recoveries)
  • Mackenzie County: 1,242 cases (131 active, 1,092 recovered, 19 deaths)

Hospitalizations in Alberta jumped above 300, sitting at 301 as of Monday night. Of those in hospital, 58 are in an ICU.

In the North Zone, 29 people are in hospital, five of whom are in intensive care.

Four more deaths were reported to Alberta Health over the last 24 hours. The provincial death toll from COVID-19 now sits at 1,987.

620,009 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have now been administered in Alberta, including 99,378 people being fully vaccinated.
