Sexsmith Secondary moving Grades 11, 12 online after three COVID-19 cases confirmed

Mar 30, 2021 | 3:04 PM

The Peace Wapiti Public School Division is moving Grade 11 and 12 students at Sexsmith Secondary School online for the rest of the week after three cases of COVID-19 had been confirmed within the school.

The division says the move is due to the number of staff identified as close contacts. Similar moves were made at Hythe Regional School (Grades 7 to 9) and Beaverlodge Regional High School (Grades 11 and 12) due to a shortage of available staff within the division.

The PWPSD says the three cases at Sexsmith Secondary all last attended the school on Friday, March 26. Anyone identified as a close contact will be able to return to in-person classes on April 12 after spring break, provided they are not showing symptoms or have tested positive for COVID-19.

The Grande Prairie and District Catholic Schools have also moved Grade 10 to 12 students online this week amid a growing number of cases within the division, leading to staff shortages there.
