Multiple COVID-19 cases confirmed on Grande Prairie Storm

Apr 8, 2021 | 11:27 AM

Multiple cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed on the Grande Prairie Storm hockey club.

The positive tests were confirmed after the league learned later in the day on April 1 a member of the Drayton Valley Thunder tested positive.

A number of how many players that have tested positive on the Storm or in their cohort will not be identified by the league because of privacy reasons.

All players and coaching staff in the Grande Prairie, Whitecourt and Drayton Valley cohort were told to isolate for 14 days and all team activities have been cancelled until the quarantine is finished.

In conversation with Storm officials, the club says each player gets weekly private COVID-19 testing. If a player tests positive for the virus from the private testing, they are then instructed to get re-tested through AHS. Any positive cases that come back from the AHS testing are then sent to the league and fans are notified.

Despite moving back into Phase 1 of Alberta’s re-opening plan, the AJHL is still allowed to continue on with its season, as per the AJHL’s agreement with the province.

The AJHL tells EverythingGP the Storm are expected to return to game action on April 16.
