City and County partner up for Earth Day scavenger hunt

Apr 10, 2021 | 7:00 AM

The City and County of Grande Prairie have partnered to create an Earth Day scavenger hunt.

It got underway on April 9 and lasts until April 21. It is being used as a way to celebrate the 51st birthday of Earth Day.

“There are 51 tasks that we are asking residents to complete in honour of the first Earth Day,” said Jessica Foley, the Environmental Outreach Specialist with the City of Grande Prairie.

The scavenger hunt will allow residents to participate throughout the city and county.

“This is a great event to do with families, kids and adults, it’s got tasks in there for everyone. You’ll be able to spend some time in the City, the County, as well as some time at home,”

Those interested in participating will have to download the Goosechase app. Participants will then need to earn 10,000 points through the hunt in order to be included in a prize draw.

Ten participants will be selected as winners and can pick one of the following prizes:

  • Composter
  • Digester
  • Gift basket
  • Soda Stream
  • Bee Hotel
  • Aero Garden

Further information on the Earth Day scavenger hunt can be found at the City of Grande Prairie’s website.

Earth Day 2021 will be held on April 22. This year’s theme is Educational Resources and Climate Webinars. Earth Day is celebrated every year on April 22 to mark the anniversary of the birth of the modern environmental movement in 1970.
