Food truck applications for City of Grande Prairie properties opens Monday

Apr 15, 2021 | 12:16 PM

The City of Grande Prairie will begin accepting applications from food truck operators that wish to set up on City property starting Monday, April 19 until May 2.

Hayley Kramps, the Recreation Programming and Events Supervisor for the City, says this year they opened up more eligible locations for trucks to operate over the summer.

“We’ve got Muskoseepi Park; South Bear Creek Park; Avondale Park; Lion’s Park; the Community Knowledge Campus; we added Dave Barr Community Centre this year; we have Montrose Cultural Centre; and of course Centre 2000 as well.”

The CKC, Montrose Cultural Centre and Muskoseepi Park will be able to accommodate up to three trucks a day. Avondale and South Bear Creek Parks, as well as Centre 2000, have two parking spaces available, while Lion’s Park and Dave Barr Community Centre just have one each.

Kramps says successful applicants can choose to book spots at any location for any day.

“So if you wanted to be at Muskoseepi Park on Monday and South Bear Creek on Tuesday you could do that, or you could apply to have Muskoseepi Park for the entire week. We’re very flexible with that.”

The City does have costs associated with booking spots. Daily rates are $14.30, weekly rates are $54.75, and monthly rates are $119.05. There is also a 100 surcharge for operating during holidays and special events, and a $50 cancellation fee per reservation for no-shows or if the cancellation notice is under 48 hours from the scheduled time.

In order to operate in the City, there are some requirements that food truck vendors must meet as well.

“They have to have an Alberta Health Services inspection as well as meet the fire code for each individual truck, and then they have to apply for a business license as well.”

Kramps says the City typically has a quick turn-around for food truck applications, and though the City may not grant immediate permission to begin operations, she does say at the very least a representative from the City will be contacting vendors within about two days of submitting their applications.

Kramps adds that the more information included in the application the easier it will be for scheduling their spots. The scheduling and locations can be modified once the vendor’s application has been accepted.
