Teepee Creek Stampede going ahead this summer with changes

Apr 27, 2021 | 5:30 AM

A modified version of the Teepee Creek Stampede will be going ahead this year.

The dates will still be July 8 through 11.

Stampede Association President Steve Meurs says the committee felt the best thing to do was to have some kind of event this summer.

“Thursday (July 8) we’ll go with the Wagon Master Appreciation. Friday we’re going to go with our Junior Rodeo and then Saturday and Sunday, we will still have the CPRA Pro Rodeo in the day and the wagons at night. (That is) the intention at this time.”

Friday’s schedule also includes local barrel racing and team roping jackpots.

The current plan is to limit the number of spectators to 500, sponsors only. Meurs says that could change depending on what the restrictions will be at the time. He adds the usual competitors will be there.

“We are still going to be a professional sanctioned rodeo, CPRA, that’s the Canadian Professional Rodeo Association. We’re dealing with the WCA and the All-Pro chuckwagon associations. That’s the same people that always come up to Teepee Creek.”

Meurs says having something will be better than having nothing.

“It was a pretty big blow to the committee and the community to not have an event in 2020. That was the first time in 104 years. We decided this was better than risking not having it again.”

Meurs says there will be a live stream pay-per-view set up so people can watch from home.

There are no beer gardens or suppers planned for this year.
