Grande Prairie adds 24 new COVID-19 cases, 20 recoveries

The City of Grande Prairie recorded 24 new cases of COVID-19 and 20 recoveries for Saturday, May 1, bringing the active case total in the City up by four to 470.

The County of Grande Prairie added 11 new cases along with 12 recoveries for Saturday. There are now 190 active cases in the County.

Across Alberta, there were 1,731 new cases identified following the completion of 16,567 tests. Those tests had a 10.4 per cent positivity rate.

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day May 1 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 3,335 cases (470 active, 2,839 recovered, 26 deaths)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 1,176 cases (190 active, 982 recovered, four deaths)
  • M.D. of Greenview: 518 cases (20 active, 494 recovered, four deaths)
  • Birch Hills County: 20 cases (two active, 18 recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: 77 cases (10 active, 67 recovered)
  • Saddle Hills County: 25 cases (two active, 23 recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 143 cases (nine active, 124 recovered, 10 deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 682 cases (93 active, 577 recovered, 12 deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: 319 cases (39 active, 280 recovered)
  • M.D. of Peace: 603 cases (65 active, 538 recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: 106 cases (11 active, 94 recovered, one death)
  • Clear Hills County: 133 cases (three active, 129 recovered, one death)
  • Northern Sunrise County: 305 cases (31 active, 273 recovered, one death)
  • County of Northern Lights: 116 cases (four active, 112 recovered)
  • Mackenzie County: 1,577 cases (165 active, 1,390 recovered, 22 deaths)

There were 648 Albertans in hospital for COVID-19 as of Saturday night, an increase of two over the last 24 hours. Of those, 155 patients are in intensive care, up three from the day prior.

In the North Zone, 81 people are in hospital (down two), 15 of whom are in intensive care (same as the day prior).

There were three new death reported to Alberta Health from across the province over the last 24 hours. There have now been 2,086 deaths recorded in Alberta due to COVID-19 complications.

As of Friday, 1,621,306 doses of vaccine have been administered in the province, with 23,604 of those doses being administered on Saturday.

300,755 people have received two doses of the vaccine, meaning they are fully immunized.

Approximately 29.2 per cent of Albertans have received at least one dose of vaccine.
