London Drugs opens up shelf space for Grande Prairie restaurants

May 2, 2021 | 6:00 AM

London Drugs is running it’s second round of the Local Central program, and is opening up shelf space specifically for local restaurants to sell their products.

Shelly Abrey, the Manager of Grande Prairie’s London Drugs location, says they can stock a range of products for local restaurants through this program.

“So they can do anything with the shelf-stable products such as rubs, sauces, honey, even their own branded apparel.”

The items must be approved by Health Canada with nutritional facts labeled on the products, and those with universal product codes will be prioritized.

London Drugs says the businesses that apply to the Local Central program must have a valid Canadian business license or permit, and must be based in Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan or Manitoba.

The stores will not accept any alcohol, cannabis or tobacco products.

This is the second round of London Drugs’ Local Central program. The first round was open to a wider range of businesses, but still the Grande Prairie location only saw one business apply and have their products put on display.

Abrey says she’s very happy to have a chance to support local restaurants, especially now with the provincial restrictions barring indoor dining.

“I am hoping that we see a lot of local restaurants, and we have a such a diverse variety of choices out there, it would be great to see them in our store.”

London Drugs says 100 per cent of the money made through product sales will go back to the local restaurants.

Applications for the Local Central program are now being accepted through London Drugs’ website.
