Grande Prairie records 22 new COVID-19 cases, 19 recoveries

The City of Grande Prairie recorded 22 new cases of COVID-19 and 19 recoveries for Sunday, May 9, bringing the active case total in the City up by three to 507.

The County of Grande Prairie added eight new cases and 10 recoveries for Sunday. There are now 172 active cases in the County.

Those new figures bring the City of Grande Prairie to a rate of 682.9 active cases per 100,000 population, while the County sits with a rate of 541.1 per 100,000. The provincial average sits at about 578.1 cases per 100,000, with 25,438 active cases in the province.

Across Alberta, there were 1,597 new cases identified following the completion of 13,921 tests, resulting in a 11.5 per cent test positivity rate.

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day May 9 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 3,650 cases (507 active, 3,117 recovered, 26 deaths)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 1,270 cases (172 active, 1,093 recovered, five deaths)
  • M.D. of Greenview: 543 cases (34 active, 505 recovered, four deaths)
  • Birch Hills County: 25 cases (six active, 19 recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: 79 cases (five active, 74 recovered)
  • Saddle Hills County: 26 cases (two active, 24 recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 144 cases (seven active, 127 recovered, 10 deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 705 cases (61 active, 632 recovered, 12 deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: 349 cases (47 active, 302 recovered)
  • M.D. of Peace: 657 cases (95 active, 562 recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: 120 cases (19 active, 100 recovered, one death)
  • Clear Hills County: 134 cases (one active, 132 recovered, one death)
  • Northern Sunrise County: 306 cases (five active, 300 recovered, one death)
  • County of Northern Lights: 123 cases (nine active, 114 recovered)
  • Mackenzie County: 1,697 cases (194 active, 1,479 recovered, 24 deaths)

Across the province, hospitalizations grew by 22 to 690 as of Sunday night, while ICU patients increased by three to 158.

In the North Zone, 96 people are in hospital (up 10), 15 of whom are in intensive care (down four).

There were seven new deaths reported to Alberta Health from across the province over the last 24 hours. A total of 2,118 Albertans have now died as a result of COVID-19.

As of Sunday, 1,916,957 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in the province, with 27,918 of those doses being administered on May 9.

318,841 Albertans have been given their second dose and are fully immunized.

About 35.7 per cent of Alberta’s population has received at least one dose of the vaccine.
