Emergency department at Fairview Health Complex to close for 12-hour period Tuesday evening

May 11, 2021 | 11:03 AM

The emergency department at the Fairview Health Complex will be closing for 12 hours starting Tuesday evening as they will be without an on-site physician.

Alberta Health Services says the closure will last from Tuesday, May 11 at 7 p.m. to Wednesday, May 12 at 7 a.m.

“This is a temporary measure and AHS is working hard to ensure local residents continue to have access to the care they need during this time,” says AHS, in a public service announcement.

Nursing staff will remain on-site in the emergency department to provide triage and assessments. Nurses will also refer patients to emergency departments in surrounding communities as needed.

Patients requiring urgent emergency medical care during this time are asked to call 911.

EMS calls will be re-routed to surrounding facilities, including the Grimshaw/Berwyn and District Community Health Centre, the Central Peace Health Complex in Spirit River, the Peace River Community Health Centre, and the Queen Elizabeth II (QEII) Hospital in Grande Prairie.

“Depending on their needs, patients seeking care at the emergency department in Fairview may also be made aware of services available through local pharmacies,” adds AHS.

“Residents are reminded to call Health Link at 811, which is available 24/7, for non-emergency, health-related questions.”
