Grande Prairie adds 14 new COVID-19 cases, 40 recoveries

The City of Grande Prairie’s active COVID-19 case count continues to decline, as 40 recoveries and 14 new cases were identified on May 14.

There are now 390 active cases in the City, which translates to a rate of 525.3 per 100,000 people.

The County of Grande Prairie’s active case count also fell to 127 (399.8 per 100,000) after 13 new cases and 17 recoveries were recorded on Friday.

Across Alberta, there were 1,195 new cases identified by Alberta Health, bringing the active COVID-19 case count for the province up to 22,993. 12,926 tests were completed Friday, meaning the positivity rate for the day was 9.24 per cent.

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day May 14 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 3,751 cases (390 active, 3,335 recovered, 26 deaths)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 1,311 cases (127 active, 1,179 recovered, five deaths)
  • M.D. of Greenview: 567 cases (48 active, 515 recovered, four deaths)
  • Birch Hills County: 30 cases (10 active, 20 recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: 80 cases (three active, 77 recovered)
  • Saddle Hills County: 26 cases (all recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 144 cases (one active, 133 recovered, 10 deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 708 cases (26 active, 670 recovered, 12 deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: 357 cases (41 active, 316 recovered)
  • M.D. of Peace: 663 cases (47 active, 616 recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: 128 cases (23 active, 104 recovered, one death)
  • Clear Hills County: 135 cases (two active, 132 recovered, one death)
  • Northern Sunrise County: 306 cases (305 recovered, one death)
  • County of Northern Lights: 131 cases (14 active, 117 recovered)
  • Mackenzie County: 1,798 cases (206 active, 1,568 recovered, 24 deaths

Alberta Health reports that hospitalizations decreased by 27 to 686 on May 14. Patients in intensive care increased by one to 178. Of those cases, 89 are in hospital in the North Zone, 16 of whom are in intensive care.

Three more Albertans have died as a result of COVID-19, bringing the province’s death toll up to 2,140. The North Zone has recorded 166 of those deaths.

As of Friday, 2,144,280 COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered in the province. Alberta Health says 40.6 per cent of the province’s population have received at least one dose, and 7.3 per cent of Albertans are now fully immunized.
