PWPSD rolls out school bus notification app

May 19, 2021 | 11:18 AM

The Peace Wapiti Public School Division is rolling out a new smartphone app for families and staff to track the status of bus routes and receive notifications of late and cancelled buses.

The division says the new Bus Status app is available now to download from the App Store or Google Play and will replace the email notification system which will shut down on May 31.

Transportation Director for the division Ted Gobin says they wanted to launch the new app in June, as the likelihood of cancellations is much lower than during the fall and winter.

He adds this is a request many families have brought forward to PWPSD.

“The change is both necessary and in keeping with the expectations of cell phone users,” said Gobin.

The division says the status of all bus routes will continue to be displayed under the widgets on the PWPSD website and all school websites.

Once downloaded and in the app, users can add a bus, or buses, to “My Buses” by tapping the star found to the right of the bus route number. The app will then send a notification whenever the selected route(s) is delayed, cancelled, or early.

Tapping the bell icon takes users to a general notifications page where PWPSD Transportation will issue important reminders, such as how students should dress for colder weather and a notice for families to add any new bus routes at the start of a new school year.
