Grande Prairie records 50 COVID-19 recoveries, 12 new cases

The City of Grande Prairie added 12 new cases of COVID-19 and 50 recoveries for Wednesday, May 19, bringing the active case total in the city down by 38 to 244.

Two new cases and eight recoveries were recorded in the County of Grande Prairie for Wednesday. There are now 84 active cases there.

There were 812 new cases of COVID-19 identified across Alberta following the completion of 9,038 tests, resulting in a 9.3 per cent test positivity rate.

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day May 19 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 3,806 cases (244 active, 3,536 recovered, 26 deaths)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 1,328 cases (84 active, 1,239 recovered, five deaths)
  • M.D. of Greenview: 574 cases (43 active, 527 recovered, four deaths)
  • Birch Hills County: 30 cases (nine active, 21 recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: 80 cases (two active, 78 recovered)
  • Saddle Hills County: 28 cases (two active, 26 recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 145 cases (one active, 134 recovered, 10 deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 709 cases (11 active, 686 recovered, 12 deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: 354 cases (15 active, 338 recovered, one death)
  • M.D. of Peace: 668 cases (25 active, 643 recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: 130 cases (16 active, 113 recovered, one death)
  • Clear Hills County: 135 cases (one active, 133 recovered, one death)
  • Northern Sunrise County: 308 cases (one active, 306 recovered, one death)
  • County of Northern Lights: 134 cases (12 active, 122 recovered)
  • Mackenzie County: 1,832 cases (167 active, 1,641 recovered, 24 deaths)

Hospitalizations for COVID-19 in Alberta have decreased by 20 to 665 as of Wednesday night, while the number of ICU patients decreased by eight to 177.

In the North Zone, 77 people are in hospital (down five), 13 of whom are in intensive care (down one).

There were four new deaths reported to Alberta Health from across the province over the last 24 hours. A total of 2,162 Albertans have now died as a result of COVID-19.

The City of Grande Prairie now has 29.6 per cent of its population with at least one dose of vaccine, with 1,091 more people having been reported by Alberta Health to have their first jab for Wednesday.

In total, 22,195 Grande Prairie residents have received at least one dose of vaccine.

In the County, 267 more people have been reported to have their first dose. In the east and west County region combined, 10,421 people have received at least one dose, equaling 31.1 per cent of the population.

Across Alberta 40,852 doses were given out on Wednesday, meaning 2,312,821 Albertans have received at least one dose of vaccine. That total means 44.2 per cent of Albertans are immunized with one dose.
