Grande Prairie records no new COVID-19 cases, 32 recoveries

The City of Grande Prairie added no new cases of COVID-19 and 32 recoveries for Monday, May 24, bringing the active case total in the city down to 135.

It is the first time since February 3’s COVID-19 update that no new cases were recorded in the City of Grande Prairie.

Two new cases and 12 recoveries were recorded in the County of Grande Prairie for Monday. There are now 56 active cases there.

There were 387 new cases of COVID-19 identified across Alberta following the completion of 3,998 tests, resulting in a 9.9 per cent test positivity rate.

Updated case totals among Peace Region municipalities as of the end of day May 24 are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 3,837 cases (135 active, 3,676 recovered, 26 deaths)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 1,341 cases (56 active, 1,280 recovered, five deaths)
  • M.D. of Greenview: 577 cases (28 active, 545 recovered, four deaths)
  • Birch Hills County: 30 cases (all recovered)
  • M.D. of Spirit River: 80 cases (one active, 79 recovered)
  • Saddle Hills County: 29 cases (three active, 26 recovered)
  • M.D. of Smoky River: 146 cases (two active, 134 recovered, 10 deaths)
  • Big Lakes County: 709 cases (three active, 694 recovered, 12 deaths)
  • M.D. of Lesser Slave River: 355 cases (three active, 351 recovered, one death)
  • M.D. of Peace: 671 cases (12 active, 659 recovered)
  • M.D. of Fairview: 131 cases (11 active, 119 recovered, one death)
  • Clear Hills County: 135 cases (one active, 133 recovered, one death)
  • Northern Sunrise County: 308 cases (one active, 306 recovered, one death)
  • County of Northern Lights: 135 cases (nine active, 126 recovered)
  • Mackenzie County: 1,849 cases (103 active, 1,720 recovered, 26 deaths)

Hospitalizations for COVID-19 in Alberta have decreased by four to 565 as of Monday night, while the number of ICU patients dropped by three to 158.

In the North Zone, 61 people are in hospital (down one), 13 of whom are in intensive care (up one).

There were nine new deaths reported to Alberta Health from across the province over the last 24 hours. A total of 2,192 Albertans have now died as a result of COVID-19 complications.

The City of Grande Prairie now has 34.1 per cent of its population with at least one dose of vaccine. Another 279 people have been reported to have had their first shot, bringing the total number of people in Grande Prairie to get at least the first dose to 25,561.

In the County, 70 more people have been reported to have their first dose. In the east and west County region combined, 11,619 people have received at least one dose, equalling 34.6 per cent of the population.

Across Alberta, 20,174 doses were given out on Monday, bringing the total number of Albertans who have received at least one dose of vaccine to 2,552,317.

That total means 49.2 per cent of Albertans are immunized with at least one dose. Alberta Health adds 7.9 per cent of the population is fully vaccinated.
