County of Grande Prairie hosting two FireSmart Wood Waste Clean-up events

May 27, 2021 | 1:41 PM

The County of Grande Prairie is asking residents and businesses to bring their spring landscaping waste to its annual FireSmart Wood Waste Clean-up for free disposal.

The events take place on May 29 and June 5. On those days, residents can drop off wood waste, including debris, branches and deadfall and Regional Fire Service staff will safely dispose of it.

County Fire Marshal Ken Atamanchuk says getting rid of landscaping waste is important.

“Dry and dead wood material inside gutters, on your roof, or in your yard can be ignited and cause a fire with just a single spark,” he said.

“We highly encourage property owners to take steps to protect their homes and families from the risk of wildfire. Doing a quick yard clean-up and stopping by the events for proper disposal of wood waste is a simple yet effective step you can take.”

The first cleanup event goes Saturday, May 29 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Deer Run Estates, which is located on Range Road 64, south of Township Road 710.

Then on Saturday, June 5, also from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., a second cleanup event will go in the Mystic Ridge Subdivision on Range Road 64, south of Township Road 710.
