Grande Prairie adds five new COVID-19 cases, 12 recoveries

The City of Grande Prairie added five new cases of COVID-19 and 12 recoveries for Saturday, May 29, bringing the active case total in the city down by seven to 89.

No new cases and five recoveries were recorded in the County of Grande Prairie for Saturday. There remains 46 active cases there.

There were 391 new cases of COVID-19 identified across Alberta following the completion of 6,586 tests, resulting in a 5.9 per cent test positivity rate.

Hospitalizations

Hospitalizations for COVID-19 in Alberta have decreased by 32 to 446 as of Saturday night, while the number of ICU patients decreased by two to 138.

In the North Zone, 47 people are in hospital (down three), 12 of whom are in intensive care (unchanged).

Fatalities

There were five new deaths reported to Alberta Health from across the province over the last 24 hours. A total of 2,219 Albertans have now died as a result of COVID-19 complications.

One of those five deaths was recorded in the Fairview area. That fatality is the second recorded in that area since the pandemic began, and is the 180th fatality recorded in the AHS North Zone.

Vaccinations

The City of Grande Prairie now has 37.8 per cent of its population with at least one dose of vaccine. Another 494 people have been reported to have had their first shot, bringing the total number of people in Grande Prairie to get at least the first dose to 28,369.

In the County, 380 more people have been reported to have their first dose. In the east and west County region combined, 12,547 people have received at least one dose, equalling 37.2 per cent of the population.

Across Alberta, 39,042 doses were given out on Saturday, bringing the total number of Albertans who have received at least one dose of vaccine to 2,371,529 while a total of 2,759,729 total doses have been administered.

That total means 53 per cent of Albertans are immunized with at least one dose or 62.3 per cent of those aged 12+. Alberta Health adds 8.7 per cent of the population is fully vaccinated.
