City of Grande Prairie reveals Canada Day plans

Jun 3, 2021 | 4:08 PM

The City of Grande Prairie has announced its Canada Day plans for 2021.

With COVID-19 restrictions set to be mostly eased by the end of the month, there will be much more to do this year than last year and people can enjoy the festivities in-person or virtually.

Picnic in the Park:

Residents are invited to Muskoseepi Park to enjoy live entertainment and food trucks from noon to 5:00 p.m.

There will be musical acts performing at the Muskoseepi Park Amphitheatre. In order to watch the show at the Amphitheatre, guests must reserve a time slot in advance in order for the City of Grande Prairie to comply with COVID-19 gathering guidelines.

Along with those performances in the park, the splash park, playground and other amenities will be open.

Plaza Rock:

For the first time in over a year, there will be a concert at Revolution Place. The concert takes place at the Revolution Place Plaza and will feature the Derina Harvey Band with special guests The Northbloods, Kyle McKearney, and McKindred and runs from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

The concert will be a ticketed event only and those attending must purchase a table of six for $150. The provincial government is allowing 150 people to attend the concert.

Tickets go on sale starting June 4 at the Revolution Place website.

Canada Day Scavenger Hunt:

The City of Grande Prairie is once again putting on its virtual Canada Day scavenger hunt.

The hunt begins on March 21 at 8:30 a.m. and residents of all ages are encouraged to participate for a chance to win prizes.

To play, download the free Goose Chase Scavenger Hunt app, search for GP Canada Day 2021 or enter the game code 1G33L7 to uncover missions to complete.

The game runs until Sunday, July 4 at 11:59 p.m. and winners will be drawn at random and will be contacted by email on July 5.

Dual Drive-In Aerial Fireworks:

To close out Canada Day, residents are invited to participate in the Drive-In Dual Fireworks at either Muskoseepi Park or the CKC East Football Field at 11:30 p.m.

Because of COVID-19 restrictions, residents will be asked to continue follow the rules in place.

Washrooms will be made available in the Eastlink Centre or at the Ernie Radbourne Pavilion in Muskoseepi Park.

Hayley Kramps, the Recreation Programs Supervisor with the City of Grande Prairie tells EverythingGP they’re happy to put this on for the community.

“We are really excited to be able to offer live entertainment and we really look forward to seeing everyone come out and celebrate Canada Day safely.”

Kramps added that they will continue to monitor COVID-19 protocols, either if restrictions are in place or if more restrictions get lifted.

“If we get to a more lifted restrictions area, we will reassess and reissue an announcement.”
