Great Northern Casino to re-open Thursday

Jun 8, 2021 | 12:27 PM

For the first time since December 12, 2020, the Great Northern Casino will open its doors to the public on Thursday.

The re-opening of the Great Northern Casino comes as Alberta moves into Stage 2 of its re-opening plan.

Stage 2 of the province’s re-opening plan will allow for casinos, indoor recreation areas and indoor restaurants to re-open at 33 per cent of fire code capacity

Leanne Brownless, the General Manager for the Great Northern Casino says her team is excited to welcome everyone back.

“We’re extremely excited to get back to work and opened up. We’ll be following all the AHS protocols and sanitizing. Our lounge is open, slot machines (will be) open and table games (will be) open,” said Brownless

“Hopefully, shortly, we’ll get our live entertainment back as well.”

According to Brownless, the live entertainment will likely return once the province moves into Stage 3 of re-opening. She says they’re confident there will be no shortage of entertainment acts available to perform.

“I have a long list of acts that are just waiting for the call to get booked back onto our stage,” said Brownless. “Once the announcement comes it won’t be long until we have the stage full again.”

Stage 3 will happen two weeks after 70 per cent of all eligible Albertans receive at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.

Once in Stage 3, most all public health restrictions will be lifted, including lifting the ban on indoor social gatherings.

With the casino re-opening on Thursday, Brownless tells EverythingGP they’ll be returning to their regular hours.
