Karl Germann is no longer the Superintendent for Grande Prairie and District Catholic Schools (GPCSD), as he has stepped down to pursue the role of Executive Director of Human Resources (People & Culture) at Grande Prairie Regional College (GPRC).

Germann served as Deputy Superintendent for the Catholic school division for three years before moving up to Superintendent, a position he held for another 17 years.

During his time with GPCSD, Germann also served as President of the College of Alberta School Superintendents and President of the Catholic School Superintendents of Alberta.

In GPCSD’s June 21 Superintendent’s News, Germann writes:

“Although I do not want to take up too much space, I want to thank the staff and trustees for this great opportunity for our family. GP Catholic was a great place for us, and many friendships were formed, and they will last a lifetime,” he said.

“I am especially proud of the work everyone does here in our Division as they work hard to meet the needs of every child. I will strongly promote and educate people about the value of Catholic education in our regional communities.”

“I will miss GP Catholic; there are so many great people here and I was blessed to serve and work with them. In my new role as Executive Director of Human Resources (People & Culture) at GPRC I would like to form a stronger partnership with our Catholic Division as GP Catholic has a lot to offer the College.

“Congratulations to the Acting Superintendent and the new Superintendent. They will take time to learn the role and will bring a different leadership style and different priorities to the role.

“Working with a new Board of Trustees, planning for the move to O’Brien and the reuse of the existing St. Gerard, the move into St. Pat’s, securing land for future schools, finalizing an MGA with local Municipalities, partnering with numerous local Boards and the City/ Municipality, and a curriculum that needs revamping will all take time. Thank you and have a fantastic summer! It was a blessing to serve.”

GPCSD says the acting superintendent will be named in the near future.
