RCMP investigating armed carjacking in Grimshaw

The Peace Regional RCMP received a 911 call about an armed carjacking of a semi-tractor trailer that was parked in Grimshaw at 5:30 a.m. on July 9.

It was reported the suspect had control of the semi-tractor trailer unit and was heading northbound on Highway 35. The driver of the semi-tractor trailer unit was not physically injured during the incident.

RCMP responded to the incident and as a result of further investigation, found the semi-tractor trailer unit abandoned in a remote area north of Dixonville.

The Alberta RCMP Emergency Response Team (ERT) and RCMP Police Dog Service (PDS) attended and a search of the area was conducted; however, the suspect was not located.

Residents were asked to shelter in place during the search, however, that shelter in place order is no longer in effect as RCMP are no longer conducting the search.

The suspect is considered armed and dangerous and is described as:

  • Male
  • Approximately 5’8” tall
  • Slim build
  • Approximately mid 20’s-30’s
  • Dark complexion

Peace Regional RCMP continues to investigate this incident along with the assistance of RCMP Forensic Identification Services.

Police are asking the public’s help with any information in relation to this incident, or if anyone has dashcam footage between the hours of 5:15 a.m. and 7 a.m. on Highway 53 between Grimshaw and Manning, Alta on July 9, 2021.
