Socially distanced Street Performers Festival returning July 23-25

Jul 10, 2021 | 5:00 AM

The Grande Prairie International Street Performers Festival is returning July 23-25.

While last year’s festival was virtual because of the pandemic, this year’s festival will still be scaled down, due to potential COVID-19 concerns and most of downtown being blocked off because of construction.

“All of the performances will be held on the Helen A. Rice Plaza and then the food truck extravaganza and the merchant tents will be in the parking lot next to Wendy’s,” said Co-Chair for the Grande Prairie International Street Performers Festival Wayne Ayling.

In order to attend the festival this year, guests are being asked to reserve their spots in advance for a $20 donation.

The donation will provide admission for up to four people at the festival. People are asked to bring their lawn chairs to use as their seats for the performances.

All of the donations will go directly towards the street performers. Tickets can be purchased at the Grande Prairie Live Theatre’s website.

The schedule plays out as follows:

  • Friday, July 23 – Three performances starting at 6 pm
  • Saturday, July 24 – Eight performances starting at noon
  • Sunday, July 25 – Seven performances starting at 1 pm

A complete list of when each act performs can be found on the festival’s website.

Over the last several months, the Grande Prairie International Street Performers Festival lost a key piece to its team, as former Co-Chair and City Councilor, Clyde Blackburn passed away after a battle with cancer.

Ayling says this year’s festival will be dedicated in Blackburn’s honour.

“This 21st festival is dedicated in memory of Clyde Blackburn, who was a long-time Co-Chair of this festival and a close personal friend. So, we are going to celebrate him at this festival.”
