Missing five-year-old found safe and unharmed after search

Jul 15, 2021 | 2:34 PM

High Prairie RCMP say a missing five-year-old child has been found safe after a search that involved a half-dozen emergency responder groups, volunteers, a private helicopter and a police dog.

Mounties says they got a report of a child missing from a home on the East Prairie Metis Settlement at around 5:30 p.m. on July 14.

The private chopper was able to locate the missing child from the air and the police dog was able to complete the search at around 8:45 p.m.

“The safe return of this young child to their family is a relief for all of the emergency services involved in this case,” said Sgt. Mark Hall, Acting High Prairie Detachment Commander in a release from the High Prairie detachment.

“We were very happy to see everyone reunited.”

Besides the volunteers, helicopter and police dog and handler, Lakeshore Police Service, McLennan RCMP, High Prairie Fire Department, High Prairie Emergency Medical Services, and the RCMP Search and Rescue coordinator all helped in the search.
