75% of eligible Albertans at least partially vaccinated against COVID-19

Alberta Health has recorded two new cases of COVID-19 in the City of Grande Prairie for Wednesday, July 21, while the province has reached another vaccination milestone.

The province says Alberta reached 75 per cent of its eligible population (those aged 12+) having received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine on Wednesday, meaning over 2.8 million Albertans are at least partially vaccinated.

Of those vaccinated, just over 2.3 million have received both doses of vaccine, equalling 61.3 per cent of the eligible population.

As of July 21, a total of 34,838 residents of Grande Prairie have rolled up their sleeve to get at least one dose of vaccine, equalling 56.6 per cent of those eligible. 27,921 people are fully vaccinated, equalling 45.3 per cent of those eligible.

After dropping to no active cases in Monday’s COVID-19 update from the province, the City of Grande Prairie recorded two new cases in Thursday’s update (for Wednesday, July 21). Those come as part of the 106 which were recorded across the province following the completion of 6,622 tests.

No new cases have been recorded in the County of Grande Prairie since Monday’s update, which remains at four active cases.

Hospitalizations due to COVID-19 sit at 93 in the province as of Wednesday night, with 26 of those people having been admitted into intensive care.

There are seven people in hospital in the North Zone, one of whom is in an ICU.

A total of 2,320 Albertans have died from COVID-19, including two which were reported to Alberta Health on Thursday. Of those fatalities, 202 were recorded in the North Zone, with 29 of those occurring in the City of Grande Prairie.
