Jul 29, 2021 | 4:02 PM

Environment Canada has issued a heat warning for the Grande Prairie area, as temperatures over the next week are expected to climb.

July 30 is expecting a daytime high of 30 degrees Celsius, while July 31 and August 1 could see daytime highs reach up to 34 Celsius.

The current heat warning is also in effect for Beaverlodge, Hythe, Demmitt, Wembley, Sexsmith, DeBolt, Little Smoky, O’Brien Prov. Park and Big Mtn Creek, Sturgeon Lake, Valleyview and New Fish Creek, Wapiti and Shuttler Flats Rec. Area.

“Monitor for symptoms of heat stroke or heat exhaustion, such as high body temperature, lack of sweat, confusion, fainting, and unconsciousness,” says Environment Canada in a release.

“Pay particular attention to individuals that can experience earlier or more severe effects from heat including infants, children, seniors, and individuals with pre-existing lung, heart, kidney, nervous system, mental health or diabetic conditions, outdoor workers, as well as those who are socially isolated.”

Heat warnings are issued when very high-temperature conditions are expected to pose an elevated risk of heat illnesses, such as heat stroke or heat exhaustion.
