The Board of Trustees with Grande Prairie & District Catholic Schools has appointed Dr. Jessie Shirley as their new Acting Superintendent of Schools.

Shirley takes over the position from Karl Germann who stepped down as the GPCSD Superintendent in June to move to a new role at Grande Prairie Regional College.

Prior to being appointed the role, Dr. Shirley spent ten years as the Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning for the district. In that role, she helped design and present professional development sessions within the school division and to provincial, national, and international organizations.

Shirley has obtained a Doctorate in Education from the University of Calgary and also had a lengthy teaching career in both junior and senior high.

The district adds that Shirley is also a strong advocate for Catholic Education and is actively engaged in the St. Joseph parish.

“Thank you to the Board of Trustees for entrusting me with this position,” said Shirley in a release.

“All three of my children completed kindergarten through Grade 12 in this district and I have had the pleasure of teaching and learning alongside many accomplished and committed individuals in our schools.”

Shirley mentioned her goal is to hopefully cultivate relationships that develop accomplished leadership, quality teaching, and optimal learning for all students.
