Election workers wanted for Grande Prairie municipal election

Aug 16, 2021 | 4:15 PM

The City of Grande Prairie is hoping to find over 100 community members to work at voting stations for the municipal election in October.

Advanced voting workers are needed on October 8, 9, 15, and 16 from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. with Election Day workers needed on October 18 from 8 a.m. until 10 p.m.

Officials say election workers are required to stay on-site for the entire duration of their shift and until all duties are complete.

The positions needing to be filled include the Presiding Deputy Returning Officer (PDRO) and the Deputy Returning Officer (DRO).

The city says the PDRO is responsible for supervising the overall voting station, communicating with the centralized election office, and ensuring all legislated election requirements are met. They also are in charge of set-up, closure, sanitation, and maintenance of voting booths, equipment, and material.

The DRO is responsible for assisting with the set-up, closure, sanitation, and maintenance of the voting station, as well as assisting voters with the registration process such as verifying voter identification and issuing ballots.

The city says election workers are compensated at the following rates:

PRDO (all four days advanced voting): $880

DRO (one day of advanced voting): $660.

PRDO (Election Day): $300

DRO (Election Day): $225

Training day: $50 for a training session.
