Mobile mammography unit to visit Fairview with cervical, colorectal cancer screening

Aug 25, 2021 | 12:15 PM

Alberta Health Services’ mobile mammography trailer will be visiting the Peace Region next month, with the addition of cervical and colorectal cancer screening available on select days in Fairview.

The mobile mammography unit will start in Worsley at the Worsley Community Health Centre on September 21, and will move to Fairview on September 22-25, 27-30, and October 1, 2, 4, and 5, offering mammogram services on those days.

As part of a partnership between the AHS Screening Programs and Screen Test, which looks to improve access to cancer screening for women in northern Alberta when mammography is not readily available, AHS says the unit will also be offering cervical and colorectal cancer screening while in Fairview on September 28 and 29.

AHS says women between the ages of 50 to 74 are at most risk for developing breast cancer, adding a mammogram has been proven to be the most effective way to detect breast cancer.

“Early detection allows for a greater number of options for treatment and a better chance of survival.”

Women between the ages 25 to 69 are also urged to have regular cervical cancer screening using Pap tests, and AHS says everyone ages 50 to 74 should be screened for colorectal cancer.

Appointments can be made for mammography services, cervical and colorectal cancer screening by calling Screen Test at 1-800-667-0604.
