Nitehawk continuing fundraising efforts for broken chairlift at 25th annual comedy night

Nitehawk will be holding its 25th annual comedy night fundraiser on October 2.

The event will be held at the Grande Sunset Theatre for the second straight year, as COVID-19 cases rise in Grande Prairie.

Nitehawk General Manager Johnathan Clarkson says while it’s not the in-person event they wanted to have, they’re still excited to see everyone gather for what should be a fun night of entertainment.

“We had hoped that we’d back to indoor events this year, but with the recent restrictions implemented by the province, we had to make a quick pivot and move it back outdoors at the Grande Sunset Theatre,” he explained.

“That venue worked great for us last year, it was really well received. We had over 250 people in cars, and it was a really fun time.”

This year’s event, will once again, be used to raise money to replace the chairlift that was lost in a landslide back in May of 2020.

The landslide which hit in 2020 was so powerful, it moved the chairlift towers off their foundations and down the hill.

The landslide resulted in the chairlift being damaged, to the point where it was unsafe to use for the 2020 ski season.

Clarkson says they’re getting closer to finding a resolution for the chairlift, but adds they still need the funds to get the project on track.

“We are continuing to move forward, we are not sitting on our hands, we just received our final go check report recently,” said Clarkson. “We are moving forward on a project here, and hopefully, it’ll be installed prior to the season, but again, no guarantees there.”

“This fundraiser will be in support of that, and we’re really excited again the provide service to the community again this season. We look forward to being there for the community when they need us (once again).”
