Registration open for 2021 youth Halloween activities in Grande Prairie

Oct 4, 2021 | 1:30 PM

Registration for the City of Grande Prairie’s Halloween Spooktacular has officially opened, along with a new addition called the Halloween Hunt.

The annual Spooktacular will take place on October 31 at the Grande Prairie Museum and is for children aged 0-12, while the Halloween Hunt will take place on October 29 for youth aged 13-17 at the Heritage Village.

Hayley Kramps the Recreation Programming and Events Supervisor for the city, says they decided to create the Halloween Hunt for teens this year to help add to the city’s themed festivities.

“This year, we’re launching the two events, we started with our Halloween Spooktacular as we always do, and then we’re also having one for youth aged 13 to 17, called the Halloween Hunt,” she explained.

Kramps says for the Halloween Hunt there will be two different options, including a virtual and paper scavenger hunt. Both will have the teen participants move around the village while completing spooky tasks.

“They will both follow the same sort of scavenger hunt guidelines, and the winners will be entered into a draw to win a massive candy basket.”

“They will have to do some brain teasers and different things like that in order to win,” said Kramps.

At the Spooktacular, Kramps says there will be a variety of activities for children to participate in.

“We’re going to have a photo booth, some carved pumpkins you can take pictures with as well in addition to the photo booth, and then we also have people who will be dressed up, to hand out different candies and different toys and sticker books,” she explained.

“Just a lot of great things that you would traditionally get if you were to go trick or treating.”

This year’s Spooktacular will look similar to last year, although, Kramps says they have added more places for youth to grab their Halloween goodies.

“Last year, we had some hold up at a few different stations, so we’ve added in some more stations to grab candy and treats.”

Kramps suggests residents wanting to participate in the Halloween Festivities, book quickly, as there are limited spaces available.

“Last year this event actually sold out on the first day so I would encourage everybody to pre-book because we don’t have very many spots at the door.”

The Halloween Hunt takes place on October 29 from 7 p.m. until 10 p.m., with a $5 fee to participate.

The annual Spooktacular from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. on October 31, with a $2 entry fee for children, along with free admission for adults accompanying a child.
