Grande Prairie adds 56 new COVID-19 cases, 65 recoveries

The City of Grande Prairie recorded 56 new cases of COVID-19 along with 65 recoveries for October 6, bringing the active case total in the city down to 467.

In the County of Grande Prairie, there were 22 new cases identified along with 26 recoveries, there are 232 active cases in that region.

As a whole, Alberta added 1,254 new cases on 15,595 tests, resulting in an 8.1 per cent test positivity rate.

There were 13 deaths reported as a result of COVID-19, bringing the provinces death toll from the virus up to 2,814

Active case totals, as of October 6 among Peace Region municipalities, are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 467 active (-9)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 234 active (-4)
  • MD of Greenview: 134 active (-6)
  • Birch Hills County: 18 active (+2)
  • MD of Spirit River: 11 active (+4)
  • Saddle Hills County: 18 active (+4)
  • MD of Peace: 139 active (-8)
  • MD of Fairview: 70 active (+2)
  • MD of Smoky River: 54 active (-)
  • Big Lakes County: 126 active (+5)
  • Clear Hills County: 20 active (-1)
  • County of Northern Lights: 55 active (+1)
  • Northern Sunrise County: 51 active (-4)

Schools:

On October 6, the Alberta government announced that it would begin to report COVID-19 cases and outbreaks in schools once again.

In Grande Prairie, there are 12 schools that have 2-4 COVID-19 cases and nine schools with 5-9 cases of COVID-19.

Harry Balfour School and St. Kateri Catholic School in Grande Prairie both have 10 or more cases and are considered an outbreak by Alberta Health. There are 52 total schools listed as an outbreak in Alberta.

Hospitalizations:

Across the province, hospitalizations grew by 11 up to 1,094, while ICU patients grew by one to 248.

In the North Zone, there are 163 people in the hospital (up eight), while 11 people are in the ICU (up one).

Of those people in hospital, 75 per cent are unvaccinated, while 87 per cent of Albertans in the ICU are unvaccinated.

During his Thursday COVID-19, Premier Jason Kenney said over the last 24 hours 66 out of 93 people sent to hospital with COVID-19 were unvaccinated.

Vaccinations:

In Grande Prairie, 69 per cent of people who are eligible have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine (57.2 per cent of the total population), while 57.9 per cent of the eligible population have been fully vaccinated (48 per cent of the total population).

In Alberta, 84.8 per cent of the eligible population has received one dose of the vaccine while 75.4 per cent of those eligible are fully vaccinated.
