Grande Prairie Rotary, Rotaract Clubs hoping for successful October Dignity Drive

Oct 9, 2021 | 7:00 AM

The Rotary Clubs of Grande Prairie and Rotaract Club are looking to collect underwear and sock donations throughout the month of October, in support of their bi-annual Dignity Drive.

The drive runs until October 31. Residents throughout Grande Prairie are encouraged to donate fresh underwear and socks at Costco, Keddies, or Centre 2000.

Heather Jones, a member of one of the Grande Prairie Rotary Clubs, says they’re hopeful for a successful drive.

“We are happy with anything. Obviously, we want as much as possible, winter is coming. Socks especially are going to be needed. We need to keep our bones warm and our people warm,” she explained.

“In the past, we’ve collected thousands of items and our spring campaign was one of our biggest ones that we had. We have a big goal in mind, but we will be happy with whatever we can get.”

According to Jones, those who cannot donate physical items at collection centres at Keddies Tack and Western Wear, Costco or Centre 2000 will be able to donate monetarily.

“When you’re at Keddies or Centre 2000, you can give (a donation) and they’ll give it to the right people, or you can email us at dignitydrive@hotmail.com and we can get in touch and give it to the right people.”

Jones tells EverythingGP there are a wide variety of organizations who will end up distributing the items once the drive is complete.

“The agencies that we’ll distribute the donations to are the Grande Prairie Friendship Centre, Canadian Mental Health Association, Northreach (Society), Saint Lawrence Centre, Oasis House and Wapiti House.”

Jones thanks the community for their support with any initiative they come up with.

“We never cease to amaze. Grande Prairie is an amazing community and I’m excited to be a part of it.”
