County of Grande Prairie records 10th COVID-19 death, 35 recoveries added in city

The County of Grande Prairie recorded its 10th death as a result of COVID-19 on Tuesday, October 19. The death was one of 18 reported in Alberta for Tuesday, and seven in the North Zone. To date, 3,006 Albertans have died as a result of COVID-19 in the province.

Of the seven people in the North Zone who passed away, four had no known pre-existing conditions.

Those who didn’t have pre-existing conditions include a female in her 70s, a female in her 40s, and two males in their 70s.

Two males in their 80s and a female in her 80s that passed away had pre-existing conditions.

There were also 13 new cases along with four recoveries added in the county over the past 24 hours. It now has 118 active cases.

In the City of Grande Prairie, there were 19 new cases and 35 recoveries. The city is down to 228 active cases.

Across Alberta, there were 786 new cases of COVID-19 identified on 12,114 tests, resulting in a 6.4 per cent test positivity rate. There are currently 10,824 active cases in the province.

Across the province, hospitalizations dropped by 36 to 928, while the number of ICU patients dropped by 15 to 203.

Of those admitted to intensive care, 172 are unvaccinated, 10 are partially vaccinated, and 21 are fully vaccinated.

In the North Zone, there are 141 people in the hospital (down 12), while 14 people are in the ICU (down, one).

In Grande Prairie, 70.8 per cent of people who are eligible have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine (58.7 per cent of the total population), while 61 per cent of the eligible population has been fully vaccinated (50.6 per cent of the total population).

In Alberta, 86.2 per cent of eligible Albertans aged 12 and older have received at least one dose of the vaccine, while 77.9 per cent of those eligible are fully vaccinated.
