Clairmont author writes new children’s book

Oct 24, 2021 | 7:00 AM

A children’s book about dreams by a local Clairmont man hopes to help calm young minds while falling asleep.

Stephen Monk says he has written several books about the dreaming process, but this was the first time he has released a children’s book.

“One of my kids asked me ‘can you read a kid’s book about dreams?’ I said sure, so it’s all little turtles and bears and stuff like that.”

His book, Dr. Dreams, was released at the beginning of 2021 and includes tips to help young minds when they are sleeping.

“It’s about dreaming and stuff too, so it gets out of scary dreams. It kind of helps him get over that and there’s also little hints about helping get over bedwetting, and stuff like that, too,” he said.

“It’s a book that is going to help a lot of people and if it’s not helping them, it will entertain them.”

Monk says his book for children was written and sketched roughly four years ago, although was put on hold after he was in a highway collision.

“I was put in a coma from being in a two, 18 wheeler accident on the highway, so the book was put on pause,” he said.

“The book was taken off pause, completed and released to the public while I was still in a wheelchair from the accident.”

The 32-page children’s book; Dr.Dreams is one of a handful of books about dreams Monk has written, including The Twelve Poems Of Knowledge, Religious Osmosis, Advanced Fatigue Management, which can all be found here.

Monk suggests the silver lining from his accident sparked an idea on a book he is working on about dreams and how recovering from injuries impacts the dreaming process.
