Maskwôtêh Park pedestrian bridge officially opens to residents

Residents can now start walking on the new pedestrian bridge in Maskwôtêh Park.

City of Grande Prairie Mayor Jackie Clayton says the new bridge provides additional connectivity to the city’s extensive trail system.

“Adding this bridge creates another path for walkers and recreation, but also connectivity to the hospital and healthcare.”

Construction on the Maskwôtêh Park bridge began back in July 2021.

With support from the federal government, Clayton says the vision of connecting the hospital to the rest of the city was able to come to life.

“This really is another added value piece to the regional healthcare facility. When you’re looking out the windows the view of the bridge from the facility is incredible.”

With the grand opening of the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital slated for December 4, Clayton says the completion of the new bridge is perfect timing.

“If you’re visiting a sick family member or friend, get out and enjoy the trails, for the employees from AHS that are on their breaks, they have connectivity right at their back door.”

From the hospital rooms, Clayton suggests the view is breathtaking.

“You can see Centre 2000, the sundial, this bridge, you can see all across the valley and the corridor and it just reminds people that getting out and enjoying nature is such an important part of our community.”

The bridge is located east of the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital and connects to the hospital grounds and surrounding trails.
