Grande Prairie dips below 100 active COVID-19 cases

The City of Grande Prairie added 13 new cases of COVID-19 and 32 recoveries from November 26-28, bringing the active case total in the Swan City down to 88.

In the County of Grande Prairie, there were 21 new cases and 15 recoveries recorded over the weekend, raising the active case total there to 92.

As a whole, Alberta added 806 new cases over the weekend, following the completion of 19,100 tests. Those tests resulted in a 4.2 per cent positivity rate.

Active case totals, as of November 28 among Peace Region municipalities, are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 88 active (-19)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 92 active (+6)
  • MD of Greenview: nine active (+1)
  • Birch Hills County: one active (+1)
  • MD of Spirit River: nine active (+5)
  • Saddle Hills County: one active (-3)
  • MD of Peace: 13 active (-2)
  • MD of Fairview: four active (-)
  • MD of Smoky River: six active (+2)
  • Big Lakes County: 10 active (-1)
  • Clear Hills County: zero active (-)
  • County of Northern Lights: 11 active (-1)
  • Northern Sunrise County: 11 active (+1)
  • Mackenzie County: 61 active (+11)

Across the province, hospitalizations decreased by 23 to 432, with 77 of those patients in the ICU, a decrease of 13 over the weekend.

Of those in hospital, 225 are unvaccinated and 89 are fully vaccinated.

In the North Zone, 56 people are in hospital (down nine), while six people are in the ICU (down one).

There were seven deaths reported to Alberta Health over the last 24 hours, bringing the provincial death toll to 3,242.

In Grande Prairie, 61.3 per cent of the total population has received one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, while 56.8 per cent of the eligible population has been fully vaccinated.

NOTE: With COVID-19 vaccines now available to children five and older, it has caused the percentage of eligible vaccinated individuals to drop. So far, 61.5 per cent of children aged five and older have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

In Alberta, 88.7 per cent of eligible Albertans aged 12 and older have received at least one dose of the vaccine, while 83.8 per cent of those eligible are fully vaccinated.
