GPRC Concert Choir set to hold first live performance in two years

Dec 2, 2021 | 12:47 PM

The Grande Prairie Regional College (GPRC) Concert Choir is gearing up for its first in-person performance in two years on Saturday, December 4.

The last time the choir was performed on-stage in front of people was in December 2019 for their last Christmas concert.

Since that day in December, the choir has been silenced because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Public health restrictions made it impossible for them to perform in person.

Instructor of Voice and Choir at GPRC Dr. Tina Alexander-Luna tells EverythingGP students and members of the choir are eager to get back out and perform.

“We’re pretty excited, our last concert we did together was in December of 2019. We were rehearsing to do a concert in spring 2020, but of course because of the pandemic that didn’t happen,” she said.

“We are definitely excited to perform again in front of a live audience and just sing together again. That’s been huge.”

The concert takes place at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Douglas J Cardinal Performing Arts Centre at GPRC.

The choir is made up of students and local community members.

With this being their first live performance in two years, Dr. Alexander-Luna says it will be a jam-packed show.

“The concert features the GPRC Concert Choir as well as the Seraphina Women’s Choir. There will be definitely some seasonal favourites, as well as some excellent choral music,” she explained.

She adds there will also be a string quartet on stage with them for one of their pieces of music that they will be performing. The quartet is made up entirely of local players.

Dr. Alexander-Luna tells EverythingGP, the Choir has been rehearsing for this performance since September.

GPRC will also be hosting a Visual Art Student Exhibition at 7:00 p.m. prior to the performance.

Tickets for the concert are $15 for students and seniors and $20 for everyone else. You can purchase tickets by clicking here.
