CANDLELIGHT SERVICE

Oliver’s Christmas Candlelight Service goes online for second straight year

Dec 2, 2021 | 10:45 AM

The holiday season is a joyous time, but it can also bring up feelings of grief among people who are looking at spending their first Christmas without a loved one who has passed away.

Oliver’s Funeral home wants those families to celebrate their memory, through their annual Christmas Candlelight Service, which will be held online for a second straight year, starting on December 5.

Tracy McFee, Oliver’s General Manager says the candlelight service is something they offer to families that they have assisted in the Grande Prairie and surrounding area.

“We do have some families that come to the service that we have served not just this past year but in other years as well.”

McFee says the pre-recorded virtual event will be available starting at 7 p.m. on Sunday, December 5, through a link on their website www.oliversfuneralhome.com

“There will be an introduction and a time to remember their loved ones. There will also be a slide show with photos of their loved ones.”

She adds it is important for families to have an opportunity during the holiday season to remember those they have lost.

“This is likely their first Christmas without their loved one, so this gives them an opportunity to reflect on the past year without them, and all the firsts that have happened without them,” said McFee.

Especially since Christmas is such a special time for most families to get together, this will be an opportunity for them to be able to grieve their loved one.”

Families who submitted photos for the memorial slide show will also receive a special ornament, they can pick up at the funeral home.
