Plans for hosting curling provincials coming together

Dec 9, 2021 | 12:43 PM

Organizers say plans for Grande Prairie to host the Best in Alberta women’s and men’s curling provincials are coming together “very nicely.”

Grande Prairie Curling Centre executive director Colin Griffith says what he calls “a tremendous number of volunteers” are in place.

“Our volunteers have prior experience with the club hosting major world events and national and championships.”

“It’s just delightful that we’re getting this opportunity to offer the opportunity for the local curling fans and community to participate.”

Griffith says there is a need for more volunteers. Anyone interested can fill out a form at the Grande Prairie Curling Centre.

When it comes to fans, Griffith is expecting what he calls “a very, very good turnout.”

“We have to face the reality that the COVID restrictions will have some impact but we’re really hoping that it’s going to have a minimal impact.”

Both championships will take place from January 3 to 9 at the downtown arena. This will be the first time the two have been held jointly. Twelve men’s and eight women’s teams will take part.
